WHO Declares Monkeypox Emergency

Continued Outbreak

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the ongoing monkeypox outbreak a public health emergency. The WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, called for the meeting to seek advice and guidance on the current situation.

Rapid Spread

The disease outbreak is currently affecting multiple countries, and the rapid spread of mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, has raised concerns. Mpox is a highly infectious disease that can cause severe illness and even death. Symptoms of mpox include fever, headache, muscle aches, and a distinctive rash.

The WHO is working closely with affected countries to provide support and guidance. The organization is also urging countries to strengthen their surveillance systems and to implement effective measures to prevent the further spread of mpox.
