Magnitude 5.3 Earthquake in San Joaquin Valley

A stronger magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck the San Joaquin Valley on Tuesday evening. The epicenter of the quake was located about 18 miles southwest of Bakersfield. Magnitude 3.7 Earthquake and Aftershock in Bakersfield

Following the magnitude 5.3 earthquake on Tuesday, the USGS recorded a magnitude 3.7 aftershock in east Bakersfield on Tuesday night. This aftershock brought very strong shaking to the area and resulted in 12 deaths and the collapse of some buildings.
